About

Welcome to the World History Blog

The purpose of this blog is to provide an online resource for those who feel that, however “educated” modern academic institutions may have left them, there is something significant missing in their understanding of the world and their fellow man. The history of the world, told largely but not entirely from a Western viewpoint, has been divided into eight sections found on the pages above. On each page a visitor to this site will find a brief article about the time period in general, followed by links to longer articles about specific events and people proper to that time period.
The division into eight parts was made in order to allow one to treat each page as a “semester” of history, though it is obviously not necessary to follow any schedule when using this blog as a resource. Indeed, many articles will recommend the reading of passages or entire books by famous authors such as Herodotus and Edward Gibbon. Following through on all these recommendations would likely take a working man much longer than a semester. But this partition at least gives some framework within which one may decide how to divvy up his precious time and energy in the study of world history.
